Freelance Project Engineer

About the Role:

Our client is in search of a freelance Mechanical Engineer to join their team on a 12-month freelance contract. Located in Rotterdam and The Hague area with a hybrid work arrangement, you will be pivotal in enhancing the design and implementation of mechanical systems for renewable energy projects. This position is ideal for a professional with a robust background in mechanical engineering, particularly within the renewable energy or utilities sector, who thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Location: Rotterdam and The Hague, Netherlands (Hybrid Arrangement Possible)

Contract Duration: 12 months (Start Date: November/December)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and the client's HSEQ policies.
  • Promote a culture focused on safety and efficiency in project execution.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely design and integration of mechanical systems.
  • Manage the interfaces between mechanical systems and other engineering disciplines to ensure cohesive project delivery.
  • Provide technical oversight during all phases of projects, including feasibility studies, design, and implementation.
  • Serve as the lead engineer for specific project components, ensuring quality and timely execution.
  • Oversee the procurement process for mechanical equipment and components to ensure timely delivery.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring project milestones are achieved within budget constraints.
  • Utilize project management tools to enhance communication and decision-making across teams.
  • Ensure that all documentation is maintained and up to date throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Set up as a freelancer in the Netherlands and living in the Netherlands
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in mechanical systems engineering, preferably in the renewable energy sector.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in Dutch is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in project coordination with a systematic approach.
  • Self-starter with the ability to perform well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Team-oriented with a proactive mindset and flexibility to adapt to changes.
  • Capable of offering constructive feedback and solutions to complex challenges.

Ran by our head of L&D this programme is designed to support junior managers as they start their management career. This involves things like personal branding, time management and ends in a business plan which is presented to members of the Exec board and senior management team.
