Freelance Process Engineer - Petrochemical Plant Optimisation Project

Are you an experienced Process Engineer ready to dive into a hands-on project in the heart of the Dutch petrochemical industry? We are seeking an independent, skilled ZZPer to contribute to a large-scale optimisation and safety improvement initiative at a prominent petrochemical site in the Rotterdam area.

Position: Freelance Process Engineer

Location: Rotterdam and the Hague, Netherlands

Start Date: Immediate (1-year contract with possible extension based on project progress)

Working Arrangement: 5 days a week on-site

Project Overview

This project focuses on optimizing an existing production facility specializing in advanced chemical synthesis for high-demand industrial applications. The goal is to enhance operational efficiency, implement advanced process monitoring, and ensure compliance with the latest HSE standards. As part of the engineering team, you will work directly on process optimization initiatives, critical infrastructure upgrades, and risk assessment strategies to meet ambitious production and sustainability targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process Optimisation: Analyze and re-engineer production workflows to reduce energy use and minimize waste, with an emphasis on lean and efficient design.
  • Safety & Compliance: Conduct HAZOP studies and lead initiatives to improve safety standards. Implement new monitoring systems to maintain regulatory compliance in alignment with EU safety guidelines.
  • Technical Leadership: Collaborate closely with site managers, engineers, and project teams to identify and troubleshoot bottlenecks, then deliver viable engineering solutions.
  • Data-Driven Improvements: Utilize process data to make informed decisions on production adjustments, optimizing performance across various operational parameters.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of modifications, changes in operating procedures, and results from optimization efforts to facilitate smooth project transitions.

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in process engineering, specifically within the petrochemical or speciality chemicals sector, with hands-on knowledge of industrial plant operations.
  • Skills: Strong analytical skills with a track record in process optimisation, familiarity with HAZOP protocols, and a solid understanding of advanced chemical processing.
  • Languages: Fluent in English.
  • Availability: Able to commit to full-time project work onsite in Rotterdam.
