Scam Message Awareness
Social Media Scam Messages
G2 is aware of a scam targeting job seekers on platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. Scammers are impersonating recruitment companies, like us, and offering fake job opportunities to elicit information or money.
Background
We’ve been made aware of a series of scam messages being sent to job seekers via social media platforms. Scammers are claiming to be recruiters and other representatives of G2, despite having no affiliation to us in any way, and offering these candidates fake job opportunities.
These messages will generally come from an unknown number and will ask the work seeker about their job search and offer them a new opportunity or job role. The scammer may subsequently request money or personal information.
Please be aware, G2 has no affiliation with these actions, and is not the sender of such scam messages.
What we do
We are a recruitment agency, providing recruitment services in the engineering, technology, life science and government sectors, across the UK, US and Europe.
We will never ask candidates to pay a fee for our recruitment services.
These WhatsApp messages are being sent by impersonators of G2 and are not genuine communications from our employees or representatives.
Please read the below for tips on how to identify and report a scam.

What can you do to protect yourself
How to spot a scam:
- Unfamiliar number – the message received may come from a number you do not recognise, or the message may seem out of the blue.
- Too good to be true – you may be offered a higher salary than you’d commonly see or expect. The message is intended to incentivise or draw you in.
- Pressure to act fast – the scammer may urge you to provide your personal information or request you to pay fees immediately.
- Errors or incorrect information – the messages you receive may contain errors, spelling and grammar mistakes, or incorrect information.
- Unrelated responses – the scammer’s answers may be incorrect or seem unconnected to the questions you ask them; it often won’t have normal conversational flow.
If you think you are being scammed:
- Report the scam – block the number and report it to the communication platform, the National Cyber Security Centre and/or Action Fraud.
- Do not share any personal information – never share financial or personal information on these platforms.
- Verification – verify the recruiter’s identity, by checking their LinkedIn profile or company website. Don’t be afraid to contact them via other means if you’re unsure, such as email or LinkedIn.
- Don’t pay any fees – legitimate recruiters don’t charge job seekers for their recruitment services.
- Contact the platform you have received the communication via – contact the platform should you require further assistance or information.
- Contact G2 Recruitment – contact us via our website, email or telephone if you are uncertain whether the messages received are legitimate.
