Interim Reservoir Engineering Manager

ZZP Reservoir Engineering Manager - Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Sector

Location: Randstad, Netherlands (hybrid working model, 3 days in office/2 days WFH).

Contract: Initial 6-month contract with potential for extension based on project needs.

Hours: Full-time (40 hours/week).

We are seeking an experienced Reservoir Engineering Manager to join a leading project team involved in large-scale CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) initiatives based in the Netherlands. This role is perfect for a freelance (ZZP) professional with a strong background in subsurface reservoir engineering and early-phase project development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the subsurface aspects of pre-FID (Final Investment Decision) CCS projects.
  • Develop reservoir management strategies for safe and efficient CO₂ storage.
  • Conduct reservoir characterization, modelling, and simulations to assess storage capacity and containment risks.
  • Manage and guide a team of technical subsurface personnel, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
  • Provide technical support for CO₂ injection planning, monitoring, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including geologists, geophysicists, and regulatory specialists.
  • Contribute to the development of project plans for subsurface engineering phases, potentially extending beyond FID.

Requirements

  • A university degree in Chemical Engineering or Petroleum engineering is mandatory.
  • 10+ years of experience in reservoir engineering and reservoir management, with a focus on subsurface development projects.
  • Strong expertise in early-stage project phases, including feasibility studies and pre-FID activities.
  • Knowledge of reservoir modelling tools and simulation software.
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams and deliver results under tight timelines.
  • Fluent in English (Dutch not required).
